Thinking like a Storyteller Workshops

For many years Laura conducted an ongoing workshop in her loft called THINKING LIKE A STORYTELLER. These day-long workshops explore how to uncover the inner meaning in a story for performance. Each day is limited to ten people. Each person is requested to choose a traditional story to work on during the day. There is no prerequisite, beginners and advanced performers are very welcome. We will work with the structure of the story as a reciprocal event; uncovering levels of meaning as we develop personal styles of performance, and taste the power of presence and compassion. The days will be taped and the CD will be available to all who attend.
The workshops are usually scheduled in a series of four, but you may sign up for one, all four, or any combination of dates. Each workshop will be unique and complete taken independently, but will also be enhanced by the other workshops.

Hours of each workshop: 10 am to 4 pm.

The storyteller has unique and specific concerns that are different than all other more passive forms
of narrative or solo performance arts. Laura is a masterful coach able to hone in on what an individual needs to develop their story, or relax into a more focused and meaningful performance. She works with either traditional retellings, or personal stories. Each session includes exercises that help climb under the inner meanings in a tale and the storyteller's personal relationship to each narrative; followed by helpful suggestions to improve presentation skills.
